About WhaleWatch

Last updated June 2026

WhaleWatch is an independent research tool that reads the public 13F-HR filings every institutional manager with more than $100M under management is required to file with the SEC each quarter. We organize those filings into a leaderboard, fund pages, ticker pages, and an activity feed so retail investors can see where the smart money has been positioning.

Where the data comes from

Every filing on WhaleWatch is parsed directly from the SEC EDGAR system. We do not buy data, we do not estimate positions, and we do not surface anything that is not in a public filing. Tickers and sectors come from a combination of the OpenFIGI lookup service and a curated override map we maintain by hand.

What we do not do

WhaleWatch does not provide investment advice, manage money, or recommend trades. 13F filings are reported with a 45-day lag and only cover long US equity positions — they are an incomplete picture of any fund and should never be the only input to an investment decision.
