Data limitations
- 13F filings are required to be submitted within 45 days of the end of each calendar quarter. Every position shown on WhaleWatch is therefore at least 45 days old and may be substantially older.
- 13F filings only cover long US equity positions over a reporting threshold. They do not include shorts, foreign equities, private holdings, derivatives in many cases, cash, or fixed income.
- A fund's real portfolio almost always looks meaningfully different from what its 13F shows.
- Return estimates are computed from implied per-share prices in the filings and a public benchmark; they are approximations, not audited fund performance.
- Tickers and sector mappings are best-effort. CUSIPs do not always resolve to a single ticker, and corporate actions can break linkages.
